FAQs
Does Whiteboard Active work on RM CC3 networks?
- Yes, the programs have been designed to accommodate, and tested on CC3 networks.
Does Whiteboard Active work on Macintosh?
- No, the programs have not been designed for use on Macintosh, though the resources are available for Macintosh as a module in Knowledge Box. See http://www.uk.knowledgebox.com/
As a teacher's resource, we recommend that all Whiteboard Active titles are installed to a central server location - this will facilitate cross-product resource searching. If necessary however, the programs may be rolled out to individual workstations using the supplied MSI package.
Why do the videos fail to play?
- Check that you have Flash Player 8 or later installed (www.adobe.com)
- Check that the shortcut you are running the program from resolves to a mapped drive letter (UNC network shares - beginning \\ - are not supported)
- You may need to uninstall/re-install the Flash Player plug-in AND ActiveX control
- use the uninstaller at
- use the installer download at www.adobe.com
You may find that other embedded FLV video files fail to play audio - for example YouTube, or GoogleVideo. This would appear to be the case if you upgrade older versions of Flash Player plug-in.
Why does the ‘search' not locate resources on other Whiteboard Active titles?
- The titles should be installed to the same folder in order to facilitate cross-title resource searches.
- Check the properties of the individual title shortcuts in the Start menu.
Can I run the program from the CD?
- Yes you can; however we recommend that you install the program for optimum performance.
- If you need to run from the CD, locate the Whiteboard Active.exe application and double-click it.
- Search results will be limited to the currently running title when operating from CD
Why does the video stutter when I'm running from battery? My system is really fast!
- Laptops will be more likely to have performance issues when running from battery, this will typically manifest in a reduction in screen brightness, hard disc speed reduction, and CPU (processor) throttling. In some cases, even though you may have a top-of the range laptop, this feature can slow the computer to as low as 5% of the normal processor speed.
This is an advanced power-saving feature of modern operating systems, and can be addressed by modifying the parameters in the power/performance settings options of your laptop. Please contact the manufacturer of your laptop for further guidance.
